WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

The XJ10 FJ Cruiser’s drive-by-wire throttle is calibrated with a built-in delay. This factory restriction allows the manufacturer to meet EPA regulations and fuel-efficiency targets while making the vehicle suitable for a wide range of drivers.

However, in an off-road capable vehicle like the FJ, performance should be the priority. Throttle lag is a major drawback, especially when driving on off-road trails. The FJ Cruiser's live rear axle and optional rear locker give you serious off-road skills, but the factory throttle tune can’t keep up with this capability.

The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:

Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.

Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.

Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.

After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.

The Pedal Commander has renewed my enthusiasm for my Toyota FJ Cruiser that I bought new in 2007 and has served as my daily driver for 175K miles and is still stock. The vehicle has a lot to love about it but my main complaint has always been that it felt under powered. The factory horse power rating is around 240 but it felt more like 100, by adding the Pedal Commander it has made an incredible difference in the performance. No more being stuck behind a slow moving truck on a two lane for fear that I wouldn't be able to pass safely, just blip the gas and it MOVES!!! Installation was as easy as instruction video showed. I was so impressed the day I installed it I drove straight over to show a friend that also drives a FJ (you will be getting another order soon). I waited too long to pull the trigger on this because I thought it was hype. Believe me, this is the best upgrade I have ever purchased. Thank you for making a great product.

I have a 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser and I originally purchased a Banks Pedal Monster. I installed and uninstalled the Pedal Monster 3 times and spoke to their tech services people each time. Finally, after my 3rd attempt, and it not working, the tech finally tells me they had a similiar problem with another FJ Cruiser. I dont know why he couldn't tell me that after the 2nd attempt! With the Banks product I had to disconnect the battery and go thru a sequence of gyrations to find out it wouldnt work. With the Pedal Comander, I just plugged it in and it worked. 100% impressed!!

This pedal commander was easy to install on my 2013 FJ Cruiser! I haven't played with it a lot, I put it on sport mode and left it there so far. It is a noticeable difference! Added the extra pip that it needed! I can't speak for any mileage savings since I haven't played with it much.

What a difference in response! Makes the FJ much more bearable to drive on highway and off-road. Took a long road trip and I can confirm that the pedal is far more responsive in Sport and Sport+. City is comfortable with a little pep. Eco mode is in a word, incredible for off-road. Drove on loose sandy beaches and eco made it so much easier to control acceleration.Never thought I’d be a believer in such a small little silicon chip, but I am converted. I love this little device. MPG went up about 3-4 miles on city on the highway. Sport and Sport+ went down due to higher RPM, but is definitely a game changer when passing slow left lane drivers.

Works well. Definitely allows you to custom adjust your gas pedal's sensitivity. Very easy to install. Took 5 minutes. Eco mode really does save you gas in flat driving. City mode is better than the standard setup from the factory. Sport mode is great. Sport+ makes the car very jumpy.

Super easy to install on my 14 FJ Cruiser. The difference between eco and sport+ is insane. I purchased it for my road trip to Florida from NYC to get better gas mileage. This will be the true test in a couple of weekends but for now I am super happy and excited to use it.

I have to admit it works very nice and I installed in 2 mins flat. Sport plus mode is shap but I did notice my transmission was constantly shifting because of the quick RPMs. Driving in city mode is perfect and transmission works properly. I don’t think I’d use sport mode pls often but I may sneak it in onc in a while. Very happy with this product.
