WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

When you first press down on the accelerator, there is a delay before anything actually happens. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) systems cause this as they take the signal from the accelerator pedal when you press it and send it to the vehicle’s ECU. All of this process causes a delay called throttle lag. Besides, manufacturers deliberately leave the delay there because it makes the vehicle suitable for various types of drivers.

The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:

Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.

Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.

Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.

After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.

Absolutely amazing product. In each of the modes you can feel the difference in the throttle response. So far I really enjoy regular sport mode no plus or minus. First of all they sent it express for free, so it arrived almost as fast as my ES drives now. But really, anyone who drives this car knows what I'm talking about when I say acceleration lag. It's a known problem with the model, and over the last 10 years I've been driving it I've seen quite a few forum discussions about how annoying it is. As I understand, part of it is just the ECM tuning which makes the engine response "luxuriously" slow (ha...) and requires you to put the pedal halfway to the floor just to get 2000 RPM accelerating from stop. The Pedal Commander fixes both those things! It also helps a little bit with the awkward A.T. gear changes in low gears.The one other part of the acceleration lag issue is the pedal sensor itself. According to some forum posts I've read, 4th gen ES started using drive-by-wire but this first iteration uses a capacitor to create the signal, which is much laggier than the newer sensors that use magnets. So unfortunately that leftover tiny bit of lag cannot be fixed by Pedal Commander or anything like it. BUT the things it does fix make that problem unnoticeable.Anyway, I'm driving a 2005 ES-330, and so far City +2 and Sport +2 settings work pretty well. Makes it feel as responsive as my Dad's 2018 ES-350. The +2 is the responsiveness tuning, ranges from -4 to +4. The City/Sport settings seem to change how sensitive the pedal is. There's also a Sport+ and an Eco, but I think Sport+ is probably a little too crazy for this grandpa car. Overall this product is great! If you're as annoyed with the ES acceleration problems as I was, this almost completely fixes them. It unlocks the choice to drive sporty when you feel like it.
